Senior State President’s Message, June 2019

Welcome to the start of a new and exciting program year in C.A.R.!

First, congratulations to William Johnston of the Isham Blake Society for being elected North Carolina State President for the 2019-2020 program year. Congratulations also to last year’s North Carolina State President Daisy Dolicker, who was elected National Vice President of the Southeastern Region at the National Convention in Washington, DC, and who will be presiding at this year’s Southeastern Region meeting in Atlanta in June.

This year the National theme is “Foundations of Freedom.” National President Mackie Storage is focusing on the boyhood home of George Wash- ington, Ferry Farm, and how his boyhood years established the foundations of our freedom and his own foundations of honor and leadership. She will be raising money for two significant projects at Ferry Farm: first, to fund a re- production of the Washington family desk that was used by our first president in his youth, forging the character that would allow him to lead the Continen- tal Army and later our country; and second, to support the development of Ferry Farm’s web-based educational initiatives, allowing students from around the world to easily access the history of George Washington’s youth and what helped him grow into the leader we have all read about. All of this years contests will be in support of “Foundations of Freedom.”

This year’s State theme is “Traveler’s Rest.” State President William Johnston is focusing on supporting the military members and their families that visit the United Service Organizations (USO) at the Fayetteville Airport. William is raising money to buy more sturdy and comfortable chairs for the USO lounge at the Fayetteville airport. He has introduced an opportunity for each individual member to personally support our troops and their families passing through the USO lounge by making quilts for them.

This year we are introducing two summer meetings for all C.A.R. mem- bers in North Carolina to make it easier for everyone to attend one of these exciting and fun meetings — one east and one west. Please try to attend at least one of these meetings nearest you to learn all about William and Mack- ie’s projects for the year! You can also learn much more about both of these exciting programs by attending the Southeastern Region meeting in Atlanta on June 21 and 22.
