Catherine Michelle Horne, Debutante, March 2012

Miss Catherine Horne, Honorary State President, is the National Corresponding Secretary & was our State President in 2010 & she is member of the Joel Lane Society. A member since 2 years of age, she is proud to be a Life member & a Life Promoter of the N.S.C.A.R. Miss Horne has served as page at many of the state & national C.A.R. events & has held many positions at the local, state & national level for this organization. This past May, Catherine received the National DAR Conservation Medal. This was for the efforts through her President’s Project to support the North Carolina Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. The mission of the center is to nurse injured animals back to health & release them back into the wild. In 2010 she received the C.A.R./SAR Silver Medal of Appreciation, the Most Valuable Member award, the DAR/SAR State Regent’s Award, the National Gold Merit Award and was the National Vice President for the Southeastern Region.

Catherine is a senior at Millbrook High School in Raleigh where she is a member of the Key Club, Class Council & a 2-year member of the National Honor Society. She was just inducted into the National Achievers Society. Through her accomplishments she is the recipient the M. G. Brumbaugh Merit Scholarship for Juniata College & the Founder’s Scholarship for Lynchburg College. She plays the piano & flute & was a previous selection for All-county band, runs track & cross country, pole vaults, & was a key gymnast for the North Raleigh Gymnastics Team. This fall Catherine plans to attend college majoring in biology or pre-medicine, with the desire to become a cardiologist or an ophthalmologist.

Catherine is honoring Captain Henry Horn, her Revolutionary ancestor from Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Troop of Horses, with the 4th Virginia Regiment & also in Pulaski’s Legionary Corps. She also would like to acknowledge the service of patriot James Lester, Sr. & his son Isaac Lester, who was a soldier. Both were from South Carolina.

Catherine is being presented by her father Gary Horne: Senior National Honorary Vice President, Honorary North Carolina Senior State President, Newsletter Editor & member of the Raleigh Chapter SAR, & her mother Karen Horne, National American History Chair, Senior State Vice President, Joel Lane Society Senior President & member of the Caswell Nash DAR Chapter.

The Assistant Marshal for Catherine is Mr. Lee Utter from Raleigh. Lee is the North Carolina C.A.R. State Librarian & Vice President of the Joel Lane Society.
