For as long as I can remember, the State Society President has always said something like, “On behalf of the more than 300 members of the North Carolina Society” as they brought greetings to DAR and SAR chapters across the state. Today when I bring greetings, I bring them on behalf of the nearly 300 members. As you can see, our membership has declined over the last couple of years to fewer than 300 which is why my project this year is to focus on the North Carolina Society Children of the American Revolution. We need to be recruiting new members and working to retain the members we already have. My project is one that will help DAR, SAR, and the local societies in North Carolina to “Recruit, Retain, and Revitalize.” I will be developing a membership portfolio that will be shared with the DAR and SAR chapters in North Carolina, and all N.C.S.C.A.R. Societies. It will include information about the local societies in our state, our State society, and our National society, as well as membership eligibility requirements, and Senior leadership points of contact. The money I raise through the sale of my pin (which will be available this summer) will offset the cost of printing and postage. Members: I challenge you to recruit your cousins and brothers and sisters and friends (who have a patriot ancestor who served or provided aide during the American Revolution) to join the C.A.R. Seniors: I challenge you to help local societies plan exciting meetings and outings, find ways to serve your communities, and help fill out membership application papers so that we can recruit and retain members. New members, current members, and fun activities will really help to revitalize our State Society. My goal is to get our membership back to MORE that 300 members. We can do it together! Remember the three r’s….Recruit, Retain, Revitalize!
