State President’s Message, June 2019

Greetings C.A.R members!

My name is William Johnston and I am your new N.C.S.C.A.R State President. I would like to take this opportunity to talk about the upcoming 2019-2020 year project. My project is inspired by my family’s military background. We have been a military family for my entire life, and over the years we have enjoyed traveling across the country and overseas. The US holds a special place in the hearts of all military families, and with m project I intend to give back to this organization by helping current and future military families experience the comforts that my family has received.

The project is twofold. First, I hope to raise money to fund the purchase of three new commercial-grade lounge chairs that will be placed in the Fayetteville Airport’s USO lounge. An estimated 3,000 people per month sit on the chairs at the lounge, and the ones purchased in 2011 are starting to wear out.

Second, I wanted to find a way to make all of our state’s C.A.R. members personally involved in the project. We will be home mak- ing and collecting quilts and fleece tie blankets to donate to the USO, and they will distribute them to passengers and families trav- eling through our four NC USO airport lounges. Members will have the opportunity to learn how to piece and quilt fabric, as well as designing patterns and choosing colors. This way, even the youngest members can help.

William Johnston
State President, N.C.S.C.A.R.
