Hello members of C.A.R!
How quickly this year has flown by! Just a little over a year ago, I was nominated as a candidate for President of our State Society, and now we are here at the end of the year ready to elect the next State President and Board. It has been an honor to represent you at events in and out of North Carolina.
My theme, “Common Threads in a Shared Tapestry,” has become more and more evident to me as I have met with members of the Daughters of the American Revolution, have attended events hosted by the Sons of the American Revolution, and visited our local societies. Each of you contributes a thread to our shared tapestry starting with your patriot’s service to our nation during the American Revolution….and continuing with your service to our great nation by actively living the words of the C.A.R. Creed: “As a descendent of the Founders of my Country, I believe that my birthright brings a responsibility to carry on their work, and that as the boys and girls of 1776 took an active part in the War for Independence, so the boys and girls of today have a definite work to do for their country.” I encourage you all to continue to find ways to work in your communities, schools, and churches to make a difference, to promote historic preservation, and to encourage patriotic citizenship.
I look forward to seeing you all during our State Conference, March 16-18, 2018 in Raleigh. We have planned a talent show for Friday evening and I encourage all members to prove “C.A.R.’s Got Talent!” I am looking forward to a great evening of music, dance, comedy, and whatever other talents our members showcase! Prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place! After the show we will enjoy pizza…just let me know if you want to be in the show.
Conference information is included in this edition of the Tattler, and you’ll notice an Irish theme in the meal selections. March 17th is St. Patrick’s day, so don’t forget to wear green! Please consider donating a basket for the auction on Saturday night…your Society can choose the theme!
Finally, thank you all for supporting me this year as I raised money for my State Project to donate learning backpacks to the Museum of the Southeast American Indian on the Campus of UNC-Pembroke. This year has been quite a whirlwind, and it’s hard to believe it is almost over, but I will forever remember and cherish the memories I have made serving as your State President.
Megan Benedict, State President
