Hello members of C.A.R.!
Here we are at the end of 2017! This year has been quite a whirlwind. After Summer Board,
several members and seniors met to work on updates to our bylaws. These recommended changes were presented at Winter Board and approved to be voted on at State Conference in March 2018. Being a part of the Bylaws Committee was a great learning experience and I better understand the “how” and the “why” our Society does the things it does.
I also had the opportunity to attend the National Board Meeting in Fredericksburg, Virginia in October. We visited the James Monroe Museum, continuing to support our National President’s project and theme, “Browsing History,” and learned how volunteer service can be a great resume builder. We also voted to approve several new societies…one of which will be in Goldsboro!
I have continued to bring greetings on your behalf to several DAR chapters this fall and winter. While I am promoting my project and the theme for this year, “Common Threads in a Shared Tapestry,” I have also encouraged DAR members to consider the merits of membership in the C.A.R. for the children in their families. I appreciate their support, and yours, of my project. I have enjoyed working with the Museum of the Southeast American Indian at UNC-Pembroke to help them develop their plans for the Discovery Center.
Winter Board was hosted by the Eleanor Wilson Society at the Town Creek Indian Mound National Historic Landmark near Mount Gilead. We enjoyed a tour of the mound and a short movie which told the story of the people who lived at Town Creek Mound. It was a beautiful November afternoon and members enjoyed fellowship with one another. Thank you to those who attended Winter Board. I hope you had as much fun as I did!
I am looking forward to seeing you all at State Conference in Raleigh March 16-18, 2018! We have some great things planned. Remember Saturday, March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day, so plan to wear your GREEN! I wish all of you and your families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
