Winter 2017 Tattler Message

Hello C.A.R. Members and Seniors,

We are entering into the time of year when many Revolutionary War battles took place, thus, there are many SAR re-enactments and memorial services across North Carolina. One such event was the anniversary of the Battle of Cowan’s Ford in Huntersville, NC on January 28th. The wreath laying and memorial service was on Saturday, and this year, the Charlotte chapter of the SAR sponsored a dinner event that focused on the battle itself. A local historian spoke and a fine power point presentation helped to shed light on this important event in North Carolina history. It was a delightful event with many local DAR & SAR friends in attendance. I would encourage you to check the SAR website for the schedule of events and participate in a memorial or re-enactment near you.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Mary Lee for a very successful year as State President. She has represented our State society well at numerous SAR and DAR events and strengthened our relationship with our parent organizations. Mary Lee has also represented our State well as she traveled across the country attending regional meetings, other state conferences, and the National Board meetings. She has been a joy to work with and her dedication to her project and to the C.A.R. has been inspirational. I must also express sincere appreciation to her mother, Valerie Howell, for her support of Mary Lee. Her dedication and sacrifice has made this wonderful year possible. You two really are a dynamic duo!

We want to encourage all C.A.R. members and seniors to attend our State Conference on March 24-26 in Winston-Salem. The invitation and registration packet are included in this issue of the Tattler. Please look over the details and send in your registration form before the March 10 deadline. Notice that the hotel deadline is February 22nd. This will be a very special conference because the National President and the Senior National President have made plans to join us for the weekend! Other out-of-state guests are planning to attend as well. Come and take part in YOUR State society! Enjoy YOUR membership! Learn more about YOUR State! We hope to see you there!

Rebecca Bottoms, Senior State President
