Miss Sarah Roess Makgill is a member of the Joel Lane Society in Raleigh where she serves as the Secretary. Miss Makgill is the daughter of Ms. Diane Carol Corcoran Makgill of Raleigh.
Roess is a current senior at Needham-Broughton High School in Raleigh. She has served as President of DECA National business group and is a medal winner at regional and state competitions. Roess is a member of National Honors Chorus the Spirit show choir. She was Editor of Winged Words literary magazine, and chosen as Latin Student of the semester. Roess has earned Honor roll every semester of high school, and is Straight A honor roll student. Roess is an Equestrian and is the High School Varsity letter holder for three years. She is a show jumper with the Apex Equestrian team & works at as an intern at the facility. She is a member of the League of Conservation Voters. Roess also plays the piano, guitar and the ukulele. She has just been accepted to attend UNC Chapel Hill this fall.
Roess would like to honor her Revolutionary Ancestor George Hood. Mr. Hood fought in 7 battles in the Revolutionary war and survived the winter of Valley Forge. He served under Col. Washington in Virginia and Pennsylvania. George Hood’s name is on the wall of the Valley Forge Memorial Chapel.
Roess is being presented by a dear family friend, Jeff Charles Rezeli of Raleigh and her mother Diane who is a member of Colonel Polk Chapter, DAR. The Assistant Marshal for Roess is Mr. Jesse Franklin Tart of Raleigh.
