Alexandria Swaim was State President in the 2014-2015 term of office. Her project supported the New Kituwah Academy, in Cherokee, North Carolina. A recent study by the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians has shown that there are only 460 fluent Cherokee speakers left in the east and 72% of these speakers are over 50 or are in ill health. A key component in rebuilding the fire of the Cherokee nation is the New Kituwah Academy. Ali’s theme was Rebuilding the Fire.
