Sarah Kline, Debutante, March 2011

Miss Sarah Kline is a member of the Joel Lane Society in Raleigh, serving as Society Historian & Recording Secretary.  On the State level she has served two terms as Webmaster of “Freedom’s Dawn” our State website.   She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Bates and Mr. and Mrs. Don Kline.

In High School, Sarah was the Student Government Association’s Vice President in 11th grade and the President in 12th grade. She played on her school’s Varsity soccer team and on a club team. She was captain of her CASL Classic soccer team from 2008-2009. She is a life-long member of the Girl Scouts of America, and received the Gold Award in 2009.

Sarah is now a freshman at Duke University in Durham, where she a member of the United States Naval Reserves. Her rank in the Officers Training Corps is Midshipman 4th Class. She is a full time undergraduate student and is Pre-Medicine with a Chemistry Major and Biology Minor. She volunteers at Duke Hospital in the Oncology Department.

Sarah would like to honor her Revolutionary Ancestor Hugh Emison, who came to America in 1744 from Ireland. In George Town, Kentucky, there is a monument at McClelland’s Fort that was erected by the Big Springs DAR chapter to honor the Revolutionary soldiers who fought and died in Scotts County. Hugh and his brother Ash Emison are two names on that monument.
