Miss Sarah Crandall is a member of the Joel Lane Society in Raleigh and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Van Arthur Crandall of Holly Springs.
Miss Crandall was a member of the Captain Matthew Ramsay C.A.R. Society in San Jose, CA. and has transferred her membership to North Carolina. She just learned that she is the winner of the Rand’s Mill Chapter DAR 2007 college scholarship.
Sarah is a senior at Middle Creek High School in Apex where, as an Honor Roll student, is in the Quill and Scroll Society; Editor of the Middle Creek High Newspaper and Drama Club. She is currently serving as President of her 12th grade class. Sarah was an American Legion Girls State Representative and Appalachian Service Project Volunteer. She received the Raleigh Optimist Club 2007 Youth Appreciation Award and Scholarship, and is a three time recipient of the National Charity League Merci Award, which is given for volunteering the most hours during a year. During high school Sarah has volunteered over 400 hours at several local philanthropies, such as Salvation Army soup Kitchen and the NC Food Bank. Sarah is a Counselor at UNCG All Arts and Sciences Camp, and is on the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Board of Holly Springs and is an NC State Court of Appeals Intern. Sarah also serves as a Vacation Bible School Teacher at her church.
Sarah will be attending UNC Wilmington this fall and plans on majoring in Communications
Sarah is honoring her ancestor Edward Herndon from VA, who served in the Culpepper Militia, #85, under the command of Lt. James Finney. She would also like to acknowledge ancestors Benjah Crandall and his son Peleg Crandall. Both served in the 2nd company under Captain George Thurston, Jr. in Hopkinton, RI.
