Rebecca Ellen Crist, Debutante, March 2006

Miss Rebecca Ellen Crist is a member of the Governor Alexander Martin Society and is the daughter of Garry and LaDonna Crist. Becca began as a Conference page at the age of six served as head page before becoming a board member. She has held every office of her local society where she is the current treasurer and co-historian. On the state level she has served as Librarian, Curator, Treasurer & Organizing Secretary, and chairman. She has been a delegate to the National Convention, & has traveled to several Southeastern Regional meetings. She represented our society by being a page at the DAR state Conference & has assisted the Bethabara Chapter SAR in public relations events.

Becca is a senior at Mount Tabor High School where she is 3rd chair flute with the symphonic band placing in all-county band her freshman year. She was selected to perform piano & flute in the school orchestra. She performed with both band and orchestra at Festival Disney. Becca is a member of the Color Guard with the Marching Spartans school band and a member of the Winter Guard Competition team. Becca is a member of the Tabor Girls Service Club & was a member of the Key Club. Last year she was awarded “Who’s Who Among America’s High School Students”. Rebecca plans on majoring in English and wants to teach. Volunteer hours were spent at Mount Tabor Veterinary Hospital. Rebecca is a member of College Park Baptist Church where she is in the youth department has participated in the youth choir, vocal ensemble and was a charter member of “Eye Witness’ a dramatic interpretation group. She often accompanies the Adult choir with flute.

Rebecca is honoring her ancestor Strangeman Hutchens of Virginia. He furnished food to the Continental army & opened up his home as a field hospital. She would also like to acknowledge ancestors, Rudolph Christ of Salem for furnishing food & supplies; Jethro Sumner of Virginia, who served in defense of Charleston, the Battles of Brandywine & Germantown; & in the Army at Valley Forge. His last service was in the defense of North Carolina against Cornwallis. She is also a descendant of Patrick Henry, statesman & 3-time Governor of Virginia.

Rebecca is being presented by her father Mr. Garry Crist, Senior State C.A.R. Treasurer, Senior Society President of the Governor Alexander Martin Society & member of the Bethabara Chapter SAR.

Rebecca’s escort is Mr. Philip Pledger of Winston-Salem. Philip is a freshman at UNC – Chapel Hill.
