Miss Alyssa Caroline Howell is a member of the Dr. Robert T. Williams Society in Farmville. She is the daughter of Eric and Kathi Howell. Alyssa is the current president of her local society isf State Librarian. She has held various offices on the State Board including chairman.
Alyssa is a senior at Farmville Central High School where she is the recipient of many musical awards. She won the Pitt County Community Schools Award twice and received the Academic Award in 2005. Alyssa has been in the Future Teacher of America Club and has participated in Honors Chorus all four years. She is a four year participant in the Mars Hill Music Festival, North Carolina All-State Choral Festival, and the Greenville Youth Choral. Alyssa’s musical talent also extends to playing the piano, the trumpet, and pedal steel guitar. She also enjoys dancing and horseback riding. Alyssa is a member of Farmville Presbyterian Church. Volunteer hours are given to Meals on Wheels and Relay for Life. Her future plans are to attend Mars Hill College and major in Vocal Music Education.Alyssa would like to honor her ancestor Major James Scarborough who first enlisted as a sergeant in the Company of Captain Jonas Johnston. He later was Captain of the Company of Edgecombe County Militia and marched under Colonel Henry Hart to Virginia. He reenlisted and served under General Smallwood. He was asked to go behind enemy lines and find accurate information about the enemy. When he returned with the information, his unit captured the enemy soldiers. Alyssa would also like to acknowledge her patriot ancestors Major Benjamin May and Sergeant James Campbell.Tonight Alyssa is being presented by her father Mr. Eric Howell.Her assistant Marshal is Mr. Bryan Pollock.
